<\/p>\nThe payment system in the Netherlands has for years been one of the most advanced in the world in terms of its efficiency, accessibility, reliability and safety. The ambition of the Dutch Payments Association is to maintain this level of quality and, where possible, to further improve it.<\/p>\n
Since the payment system is relevant to everyone, a visibly socially involved and responsible sector is needed. We will continue to work towards this in the coming years. The roadmap describes the associated goals and activities that the Dutch Payments Association is pursuing for the Dutch payment system.

<\/a>Central Account Number Administration stops as of 1 July 2020<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\nThe last ten figures of the Dutch IBAN are issued centrally. This ensures that these last 10 digits comply with the ‘eleven test’ and are unique. As of 1 July, this method of working will lapse and the IBAN only has to meet the ISO requirements. Payment service providers with the correct license from the Dutch Central Bank and in possession of a Dutch BIC will be allowed to issue their own IBANs as from the summer of this year.<\/p>\n
Collective services<\/strong>
\nThe administrator of the Central Account Number Administration (BOG\/CONTO) has linked various collective services to the system. The disappearance of BOG\/CONTO therefore also affects, among others, Acceptgiro, the Bank Transfer Service, NAW queries and the Account Information Services (AIS). An inventory of all these collective services was made a few years ago. For collective services that have been determined to remain necessary, another more efficient service will be provided. Some subprojects will be completed before July.

<\/a>More than 3 billion contactless payments<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\nLast year, 3.04 billion contactless payments were made to Dutch cash registers, totalling 51.3 billion euros, according to the annual figures for 2019 of the Dutch Payments Association. A total of 4.74 billion electronic payments at the point-of-sale were made (for 119 billion euro), 10 percent more than twelve months previously. At the end of the year, 69 percent of all electronic payments at the checkout were contactless. One year before this was still 56 percent.
