<\/p>\nFrom October 9, 2025, Dutch citizens can instantly transfer euros to all banks in other euro-countries, within ten seconds, every day of the year and at any time of the day. Conversely, they can also receive instant payments from all other euro-countries at any time. In addition, the familiar IBAN-Name Check will work for all IBANs in all euro-countries. This allows Dutch citizens to pay and receive transfers throughout the eurozone as they have been accustomed to domestically for many years.<\/p>\n

On October 9, the European Instant Payments Regulation<\/a> will come into full effect for all banks in euro-countries. This regulation requires banks to offer their customers instant euro transfers (instant payments) throughout the eurozone. In addition, every bank must support a ‘verification of payee’ (IBAN-Name Check) that works for IBANs in all euro-countries.<\/p>\n The successful nationwide introduction of instant payments and the IBAN-Name Check in the Netherlands between 2017 and 2019 was a shining example for the rest of the eurozone.<\/p>\n Mandatory instant payments with verification of payee between all euro-countries offer great convenience, security, and peace of mind for cross-border payments, not only for businesses but also for consumers. Think of paying for a used car from a private individual in Germany. Or a flower nursery that can settle instantly with an unknown traveling French buyer for a large stock of tulips.<\/p>\n Thanks to mandatory instant payments throughout the eurozone, a buyer doesn’t need to pay in advance to an occasional foreign seller. Likewise, a seller doesn’t need to ship in advance without payment to an occasional foreign buyer. In other words, buyers and sellers from different euro-countries who do not know each other can now \u2018pay on delivery<\/a>\u2019 without cash.<\/p>\n With the support of the Dutch Payments Association, many of its members expanded their instant payments and the IBAN-Name Check for payments to and from all other euro-countries, prior to October 9, 2025.
