The Dutch Payments Association assists members and stakeholders with shared non-competitive tasks for the collective payment system in the Netherlands

Payments: everyone uses them and they are the bloodstream of our economy. Collective payment services are a utilityk, but like most other utilities they are not for free. The costs involved are high.

Payment transactions require an infrastructure provided by many different service providers. The efficiency, reliability, safety and accessibility of the collective payment system are of vital social importance. This requires more than just the efforts of each individual participant; they must cooperate and coordinate with each other. The payment system requires a platform where the payment sector and stakeholders can meet and maintain a dialogue about expectations, bottlenecks and developments. This cooperation and dialogue are the foundation for the Dutch Payments Association.

Standards and technical guidelines are very important for a reliable operation of the payment system. They are mostly regulated at European or global level. The Payments Association coordinates the Dutch collective alignment with these requirements and endorses the interests of the Dutch payments community.

The Dutch Payments Association maintains a number of websites about specific payment instruments or activities that involve payments, such as:

  • PIN.NL, about debit card and mobile card-based payments. This website also offers free information materials for merchants.
  • Incassomachtigen.nl, about (online) e-mandates for SEPA Direct Debits.
  • Overstapservice.nl, about the Dutch collective Bank Switching Service.
