Acceptgiro no longer available

Logo Acceptgiro

For many years, the Acceptgiro was a familiar payment method in the Netherlands, involving a paper form sent by businesses and institutions to their customers and donors. This form enabled customers to instruct their bank to transfer a specified amount for payments or donations.

However, the usage of the paper Acceptgiro has significantly declined over the years. By 2022, the number of paper Acceptgiro forms processed had dropped to approximately 3 million, reflecting a substantial decrease in its popularity.

This shift led many organizations to transition to more cost-effective and efficient payment methods, such as European direct debit, iDEAL QR code, or the Standard Payment Instruction.

Currence, the product owner of Acceptgiro, announced on 1 November 2021 that it will stop issuing and providing this more than 40-year-old paper payment product on 1 June 2023.

Given these changes, Currence, the product owner of Acceptgiro, announced on 1 November 2021 that they would cease offering and supporting this paper-based payment method, which had been in use for over 40 years. The discontinuation came into effect on 1 June 2023.
