From now on, secure instant payments between all eurozone countries

From October 9, 2025, Dutch citizens can instantly transfer euros to all banks in other euro countries, within ten seconds, every day of the year and at any time of the day. Conversely, they can receive instant payments from all other euro countries at any time. In addition, the familiar IBAN-Name Check will work for all IBANs in all euro countries. This allows Dutch citizens to pay and receive transfers throughout the eurozone as they have been accustomed to domestically for many years.

Launch of European WE BUILD pilots with EUDI Wallet

On September 3, the European WE BUILD partnership officially launched, with more than 350 participants from 35 countries. In a large-scale pilot, 13 possible applications of the EU Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet) will be developed and tested. Within WE BUILD, the Dutch Payments Association and Visa are leading a working group focused on authorization of consumer payments with the EUDI Wallet.

Dutch celebs promote accessible banking

With a little help, you can do it! Comedian Jörgen Raymann helps his mother with her daily banking, and TV-presenter Lucille Werner assists her fellow townsperson Dory. Both Dutch celebrities appear in videos and articles to show how they help others and how you can improve your banking skills. Amongst others, they point out how to call your bank from your banking app, recommend www.Bankinformatiepunt.nl for useful information, and show fun ways to master digital banking.
Jörgen takes on his role of Aunt Es to show that she found her way to her bank just fine when ‘her’ branch-office was closed. In addition to Jörgen and Lucille’s messages, there are numerous other means of communication for the target group (such as the booklet ‘A conversation about help with banking matters’ and a SeniorWeb special on online banking) and for their helpers (‘the national compliment’). More about this on www.ToegankelijkBankieren.nl and in LinkedIn posts.
Arjan Bol’s first hundred days in office

Arjan Bol’s first hundred days as managing director of the Dutch Payments Association are now well behind him. Arlette Broex and Gertjan Rösken interrogated him in an episode of their podcast ‘De Nieuwe Knikkers’ (‘New Marbles’). Dutch payments are running smoothly; what challenges lie ahead for him and the Payments Association?

Start of trilogue on PSR/PSD3 between European legislators

In mid-2023, the European Commission (EC) published its legislative proposals for PSR and PSD3, replacing the current PSD2 directive. Over the past two years, the European Parliament (EP) and the Council of the EU have determined their respective positions on these proposals.
In July 2025, the legislative proposal entered the so-called trilogue phase, in which the EC, the EP, and the Council negotiate the final texts of PSR and PSD3. If proceedings go smoothly, this could be completed by the end of 2025.

Consumers buy more products and fewer services online

Dutch consumers spent more than €17 billion online in the first half of 2025, 1% less than in the same period last year. This decline is due to falling spending on services (-7%). The total number of online purchases amounted to 168 million (-1%), of which 144 million were product purchases. The number of purchases of services fell by -12%..

The answer to stablecoins is wholesale CBDC, not the digital euro

The rise of stablecoins has led to concerns about the role of the euro in the digital age. An editorial comment by Dutch financial newspaper FD calling for the accelerated introduction of the digital euro for consumers lacks economic and practical justification. To counterbalance the arrival of stablecoins, the further development of a so-called wholesale CBDC, digital central bank money for professional counterparties, is a much more obvious solution..

PCI SSC Community Meeting 2025 focuses on security

Companies and consumers are increasingly targeted by cyberattacks. This has serious implications, such as financial damage, costly investigations, and expenses incurred by financial service providers. Cybercriminals are increasingly using advanced technology, tools, and tactics to commit cyber fraud.
Cybersecurity will be the focus of the upcoming European Community Meeting 2025 of the PCI Security Standards Council: how can you prevent and identify cyber attacks and take action?
The international meeting will take place from October 14 to 16 at the RAI convention centre in Amsterdam. Bernie Collins, strategy analyst in Formula 1, will also speak.
