The ECB appointed Piet Mallekoote as one of the thirty members of the Digital Euro Market Advisory Group. Mallekoote was general manager of Dutch Payments Association until early 2021. Together with the other members of the Advisory Group, he will advise the participants in the Eurosystem on the design and distribution of a potential digital euro.

The members of the Digital Euro Market Advisory Group are all senior business professionals with proven experience  and a broad understanding of the euro area retail payments market. Piet Mallekoote was, amongst others, director Payment Systems at DNB, CEO of Currence (brand owner of iDEAL, iDIN, Incassomachtigen, Acceptgiro, Chipknip and PIN) and general manager of the Dutch Payments Association, before he retired at the beginning of this year.

“I am proud of my predecessor for being invited by the ECB to participate in this important advisory group,” says Gijs Boudewijn, current general manager of the Payments Association. “Piet witnessed the launch of the euro from the beginning and will now contribute to an efficient and meaningful digitisation of our collective European currency.”
